Q&A - How Long Do You Meditate?

Q: I've been meditating for many years and usually I meditate about 30-45 minutes, which works really well for me. Having said that, I've been rather busy over the last few months and my available time for meditation has been reduced to 10-15 minutes tops. I'm struggling with making more time. I would like to, but it just seems impossible right now. So I am wondering how long people meditate on average because I'm worried that I don't spend enough time in meditation anymore. It would be great if people would share their experiences/knowledge with me.

Thanks so much,
Dee

Dee...I meditate at least an hour a day.......even more if I need it. I make a resolution every time I meditate that I will take breaks to do relaxation exercises or yoga nidra......that helps me achieve finding time to meditate.

Dear Dee,

I wouldn't worry about the time you spend meditating. Sometimes life gets busy and that's ok. If you make a little time every day to meditate, even if it's only 10 minutes, then that's awesome and you should feel good about that.

Personally I meditate for about 45 minutes to an hour, but there were certainly times in my life where I only managed about 20 minutes...sometimes even less than that. Today I'm just really grateful that I stuck with my meditation practice. It's made a big difference to my life and it's all positive.

Regardless of how much time you spend meditating, just remember that your mind and body will thank you for as little as 5 minutes a day. I firmly believe that!

I can't do more than 10 minutes unless I'm listening to a guided meditation. My thoughts just won't stop and then I start to feel bad for not being more disciplined, so I get frustrated with myself and once I'm frustrated, it's game over. It's easier when I'm on holidays...

When I'm in your same situation and my mind won't settle down, I put on a very long meditation mp3 to listen to. I don't force myself to still my mind . I try and just let it slowly happen. Usually when I'm very restless and badly unsettled it may take 30 minutes of half listening to a meditation practice before I start to settle down. Even If I have not settled down after 45 minutes , I still find a slight benefit for the relaxation practice. I have about 6 different relaxation exercises and I try to choose the one that I feel may work best for me at the time I feel very unsettled. I also use a TENS machine to help me relax. I also use stress balls.....anything to help me calm down.

I meditate for 25 minutes. It takes me about 10 minutes to settle into my meditation and slow my mind. Meditating for less than 20-25 minutes defeats the purpose for someone like me.

I don't have a set time for meditation, I do what feels right for me; sometimes its 5 minutes, other times its an hour - and then there are in between 5 mins and an hour sessions. I meditate wherever it feels right for me, even on the loo

I generally meditate twice a day. Approx 30 to 40 mins in the morning and approx 15 to 20 mins at the end of my working day.

If you struggle to fit meditation in your day, any activity can be turned into a Mindful activity and you will still reap benefits.

When I was first learning to meditate, I set my alarm 20 minutes earlier than I needed to get up so I could meditate for 20 min each day. Pretty soon this became a normal morning activity. Remember that it takes 3 weeks to form a habit so if you decide to do this, you need to continue each day for 21 to 30 days. I also found it hard to meditate (without using a guided meditation) for more than 10 to 15 mins at first and gradually increased the length as I became more experienced.

even 5 minutes is good, its the intent which feeds and lifts the soul.

Hi. I meditate 20 -30 minutes. Usually just once a day, but I do try to do a second meditation.

There are occasions when I stretch my meditation to about 45 minutes when I'm doing my Chakra healing work.

Hello,

You should meditate before falling asleep, even if you meditate for 10 minutes right before your sleep, it will be beneficial for you

It's not how long you meditate but how well you meditate.

As you are practicing meditation for past 1 year, its sufficient for you to take out 20 minutes time for meditation. You can also follow the schedule of 10 minutes morning and 10 minutes evening meditation.

If you are not getting as much time, yes you can meditate once per day for 20 minutes, but I will recommend 2 times per day that helps to make swift progress with positive results. I will also say you can still make good progress with one session of 20 minutes per day, as long as you go to regular practice.

For meditation of morning and night twice a day will transform your experience of life in positive and permanent ways. The evening meditation helps to get a good night sleep and you'll wake the next morning feeling rested.

i started out at 15 minutes a day. But now I am up to 1 hour a day. I find it very rejuvenating to do daily. It's a like eating fresh food, i just cant miss it.
