As a musician and as a scientist, I’ve always been fascinated with the principles of psychoacoustics (the psychology of sound), and as someone who has practiced meditation for many years, I appreciate great meditation music when I hear it. One of the things I have come to realize is this:

There is a big difference between typical
"relaxing new age music" and true meditation music.

I love listening to music while I meditate, but as I mentioned in this article on using music for meditation, most new age music that you come across might be great for unwinding and relaxing, but it’s not always the best choice if you want to experience a truly deep meditation.

Hey…I love relaxing new age music as much as the next person, but for me, music like this can become a bit of a distraction once I reach a certain level of depth in my meditation. I like meditation music that really draws me in and washes away the thoughts in my mind. I like meditation music to be hypnotic and embracing. I like to know that it is actually helping me to meditate.
